The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Guadalcanal Province are investigating the death of a 20-year-old male student of Selwyn College whose body was discovered at the Nuhu-Paru Reef at the Maravovo area in North West Guadalcanal 23 November 2017.
The student allegedly drowned while out on a diving trip with another friend.
It was alleged the student was last seen on Wednesday 22 November between 8pm to 11 pm while diving for fish at the Nuhu-Paru Reef in the Maravovo area of North West Guadalcanal.
The body of the student was found in the afternoon of 23 November by a member of the Lauvavasa Maravovo community in North West Guadalcanal, who assisted the staff of the school to search for the student.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixon Manetoga says, “My officers are now investigating the matter and I appeal to all relatives of the deceased to remain calm and allow police to carry out its work.”
PPC Manetoga adds: “I also appeal to members of the communities and boats travelling in the Maravovo area in North West Guadalcanal where Selwyn College is located, to provide any information that may help police with its investigations.”
