Police arrest a 60-year-old man for brewing kwaso in East Malaita

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Auki and Atori in Malaita Province have arrested a 60-year-old male suspect for brewing kwaso (homebrew) at his residence recently at Faumamanu in east Malaita.
The arrest was made during a coordinated raid between Auki and Atori police, acting on reports from community members over persistent illicit brewing activities contributing to disorder in the local area.
He was apprehended and transported to the Auki police station for further investigation.
During the operation, police confiscated all brewing equipment and four 20-liter containers of homebrew.
The suspect was arrested at his residence producing kwaso and has been formally charged with two offences under the Liquor Act.
He remains in police custody and is expected to appear before the Auki Magistrate’s Court in two weeks.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, acknowledged the community leaders for their ongoing support in assisting the police to curb crime in the province.
PPC Ramosaea commended his officers for their dedication and professionalism during the operation.
“We will continue to carry out similar raids to ensure our communities are safe and free from illegal activities,” said PPC Ramosaea.
