A 45-year-old father raped his 6-year-old daughter in Malaita province

Police in Malu’u have arrested a 45-year-old father for allegedly raping his 6-year-old daughter recently at a village in north Malaita.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Malaita Province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, said the alleged rape incident occurred several times between 2020 and 2022 when the victim was in grade four.

PPC Rmosaea said the relatives of the little girl reported the matter to police for arrest and investigation, and the victim was taken to the Care Center in Auki for counseling.

Superintendent Ramosaea said the father has been charged for the offense of rape contrary to Section 136 of the Sexual Amendment Act 2016 and is currently remanded at Auki Correctional Facility.

“I called on chiefs, community leaders, and church leaders to work smart in preventing such incidents in our communities. Our women and girls deserve better protection in our communities. It is very sad that someone who is supposed to protect his family is the perpetrator,” said PPC Ramosaea.

Mr. Ramosaea said police will not tolerate such incidents but will enforce the law against people who practice such acts in our communities.
