Police in Honiara will again start a Zero Tolerance Operation in the capital as of tomorrow (31 July 2025) to ensure members of the public are safe during the weekends.

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) Commissioner Mr. Mangau says, “We started this operation last weekend with great success. Twelve suspects have been arrested for different offenses, while drivers were arrested for drinking and driving.”

Commissioner Mangau says, “Fourteen vehicles have been detained for expired licenses, and five drivers were arrested for unlicensed driving.

Mr. Mangau adds, “This operation will target the illegal sale of alcohol and the sale and use of the illegal brew of kwaso. Not only that but also target those gambling illegally in the capital.”

“Police will not tolerate such illegal activities because they’re unlawful, and the consumption of kwaso causes a lot of social problems and health issues within the communities,” he said.

The police chief said Operation Zero Tolerance is part of the RSIPF’s Crime Prevention Strategy to ensure our people feel safe on our streets to go about normal business as usual.

He calls on members of the communities to respect each other, and if people are planning celebrations during weekends, they need to take into consideration the welfare of their neighbors.

“Police cannot be everywhere at the same time, but we would like to call on everyone to take responsibility for each other and to feel free to call us if you feel you need any assistance,” says Commissioner Mangau.

Police can be contacted on phone 23666 for non-emergency matters and the toll-free 999 for emergencies.
