As part of ongoing support to the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) community engagement implementation plan, the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) has supported Rove Community Associations with sewing items.
The training is part of promoting local women's employment, income growth, and gender equality; strengthening safer communities; and deepening the integration of police cooperation and community development.
The CPLT Commissioner, Mr. Shenghuang Liu, said the CPLT supports the association with clothes and sewing threads, while Solomon Island National University (SINU) provides training for the women.
Commissioner Liu said CPLT learnt with local women together on how to measure body sizes, draw clothing outlines, thread needles, cut, and sew.
“Everyone was enthusiastic and fully engaged, learning from each other and improving together,” said Mr. Liu
“After three days of training, all know how to sew proficiently and proudly displayed their self-made island clothes,” he said.
CPLT also shared the concept of promoting mutual assistance through skills and building safety through mutual assistance from Chinese communities and proposed the initiative of letting sewing skills become a bond for communication and cooperation among community women and using the warmth of people's livelihood to strengthen the community safety.
The women who participated in the training generally think that this training not only helped them acquire new skills but also provided them with opportunities for entrepreneurship and increasing family income, effectively enhancing their status in the family and society.
