The National Community Policing Department of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) continues its outreach to communities in and around Honiara conducting awareness talks in Mbua Valley, Zion and Karaina settlement on the Family Protection Act from 19 November to 22 November 2017 as part of the Crime Prevention Strategy.
“On Sunday 19 November 2017, we conducted an awareness programme at the Mbua Valley community and after the presentations a crime prevention committee was formed,” says National Community Policing Director, Superintendent Solomon Sisimia.
During the weekend (25 November) the National Community Policing team also carried out a very successful float on the 16 Days Activism and made a good number of stop overs to conduct awareness on the Family Protection Act. This was in collaboration with other stake holders such as Ministry of Women, UN women, Women Market Vendors Association, Family Support Center, World Vision and the Deaf People Association.
Superintendent Sisimia adds. “The float parade stopped at eight market areas to do awareness talks in areas including at Henderson, Lunga, Burnscreek, KGVI, Talise and Karaina. We will continue to do the outreach program during the 16 Days of Activism covering other communities in and around Honiara and Guadalcanal focusing on the Family Protection Act and the role of the police in implementing this piece of legislation to protect our women and children against family violence and all thru out December.”
