A 34-year-old male person arrested for raping his 15-year-old niece

Kulitanai Police have arrested a 34-year-old male suspect for raping his 15-year-old niece in January 2025 in the Shortland Islands, Western Province.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Wilken Miri says, “The incident occurred at the victim’s family home, where the suspect allegedly threatened the victim with a baseball bat and raped her when everyone was sleeping.”

PPC Miriki said, “The victim reported the incidents to one of her aunts in June 2025 after the defendant tried to harm her.”

Superintendent Miriki said, “The suspect is now remanded at Gizo Correctional Centre, awaiting to appear before Gizo Magistrates’ Court on a later date.

Mr. Miriki said it is important as parents to have conversations around trusting the opposite gender regardless of family relations. Create a safe space at home where children are open to share whatever they face.
