A 47-year-old male suspect arrested for a wounding incident in Choiseul province
Taro police have arrested a 47-year-old male suspect for hitting a 20-year-old girl with a knife after he asked her for sex, but she refused.
The alleged incident occurred at Sariana village in northwest Choiseul when the victim went to a local store. On her way in the coconut plantation, she met the suspect, and he asked her for sex, and the victim refused him.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Choiseul Province, Superintendent Barry Pogesopa, said the suspect hit her on the head, shoulder, and hip repeatedly with the side blade of the knife.
PPC Pogesopa said the victim struggled and escaped from the suspect and reported the matter to Taro Police. Police attend to the report, arrest and carry out investigation into the matter.
Superintendent Pogesopa said the suspect was released on bail conditions and will appear before the court on a later date. He has been charged for unlawful wounding contrary to section 229 of the Penal Code.
Mr. Pogesopa reminds good people in Choiseul province that causing wounding to another person is a serious crime, and any person found guilty of committing such a crime can be sent to prison or pay a fine.
“Therefore, I urge all good citizens to have respect for each other and refrain from such unlawful conduct. Any matter with a similar nature reported to the police to deal with and bring those responsible to court.
