As the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) prepares for the upcoming Pacific Island Forum leaders retreat in Noro, a mindset training program has been conducted in Western Province recently with the support from the New Zealand Solomon Islands Police Support Program (SIPSP).
The mindset training program has been conducted for Gizo, Noro, and Munda police to shift their mindset to be the best that they can be—every day—and provide a safe, secure, and peaceful Solomon Islands.
The training focuses on developing high-performing officers and implementing effective crime prevention strategies in partnership with the community’s crime prevention committees, whose engagement is essential to achieve a reduction in crime.
Cybercrime awareness was also delivered to officers to enhance their knowledge of emerging trends and how they can bring online safety awareness to their communities.
Participants acknowledge the importance of the mindset training and express their belief in the groundwork it has created for a more professional and cohesive police force that works alongside its communities to achieve common goals.
The team has met with crime prevention committees around Munda and Gizo to discuss the challenges they face and develop a potential training program that will best equip them on how to deal with raising issues faced within their communities.
The team conducts community engagements at Gizo High School and Nasubakuru fishing village, where officers inform students and community members of the five drivers of crime.
The training was deemed successful in supporting the relevant and ongoing training of the RSIPF officers.
