RSIPF Boost Road Safety Skills Ahead of Pacific Islands Forum
The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) has strengthened its traffic policing capability with a two-day Random Breath Testing (RBT) workshop at the National Traffic Department (NTD) in Kukum from 7 to 8 August 2025.
The training is part of preparations to ensure safe roads during the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting next month.
Officers from the NTD and Guadalcanal Province’s Henderson Police Station completed the program, which was jointly facilitated by the RSIPF and the AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP).
RSIPF NTD trainers Constable Joel Donia and Constable John Talo led the sessions, supported by RAPPP Advisor Cayden Noble-Kendall.
The course combined theory and practical application, covering road transport legislation, police powers, RSIPF governance, correct use of breathalyzers, and the preparation of strong briefs of evidence for court. Officers then participated in realistic RBT scenarios, testing their confidence, decision-making, and ability to deal with intoxicated drivers.
Director NTD, Chief Superintendent William Foufaka, said the additional trained officers will help keep roads safe.
Director Foufaka said, “The addition of these newly trained officers will assist the RSIPF in removing drunk drivers from our roads. Drink driving is a danger to everyone, and drivers need to abide by our traffic laws. Police will be out conducting RBT operations, and I strongly warn the public—if you drink and drive, you will get caught.”
