A 50-year-old male suspect arrested and remanded for rape incident in Central Province

Tulagi police have arrested and remanded a 55-year-old male person for allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl recently in a village in Big Ngela, Central Province.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province Superintendent David Soakai says, “The rape incidents occurred without the victim’s consent on two different occasions.”

PPC Saokai says, “The first rape incident occurred in November 2024, and the recent incident took place in August 2025 in Tulagi.”

Superintendent Soakai says, “The victim was too afraid to speak out but cannot keep it to herself anymore, so she tells her mother about the incidents, leading them to report the matter to the police.”

“The suspect has been charged with two counts and is currently remanded at the Rove Correctional Facility while awaiting his court date,” says Mr. Soakai.

The provincial police chief emphasizes to the parents, It is our responsibility to protect our children, especially young girls, who are vulnerable in such situations and cannot defend themselves.

He says, “It is sad to learn that such incidents are occurring in our communities, where we believed our children should be safe.”

“The suspect will face justice for his actions,” says PPC Soakai.
