More officers in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are on their way to be qualified detectives following the completion of a detective qualifying training course held at the Police Academy in Honiara 23 October to 24 November 2017.
This was the second such course held this year. It was attended by 30 participants comprising of 24 male and 6 female officers.
The training was facilitated by the RSIPF Academy with other stake holders including the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Public Solicitor’s Office and the Leadership Code Commission.
This training covered a wide range of topics including investigating different types of offences like homicidal and arson, the admissibility of evidence, crime scene management and sexual offences under the amended Sexual Offences Act
One of the participants in the detective qualifying training course, Staff Sergeant Saxon Sasi says, “The training was an eye opener for us in identifying some of the issues affecting our line of duties and how we can make improvements. It also assists us to broaden our knowledge in order to improve roles as police investigators.”
Officers who attended the detective qualifying course will be required to investigate a number of cases until the cases are prosecuted in court as part of their practical before they become qualified detectives.
