Police in Makira/ Ulawa Province appeal for a crime-free festive season

Provincial Police Commander for Makira Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai reminds the good people of that province to have a crime-free and safe festive season for 2017.

“My Christmas message to friends and families in the Makira Ulawa Province is very clear, do the right thing, don’t drink and drive, and celebrate with your families to ensure we minimise incidents of family violence during this festive season. But if you are a victim of family violence come forward and report the matter to the police,” says Superintendent Sitai

He adds, “Police will not be present in all our communities therefore I appeal to community leaders to involve your people in crime prevention activities including church, sports and cultural events as part of the festivities.”

“Furthermore crime prevention is not the work of police alone but the business of every one in Makira Ulawa Province so make sure this festive season is a crime free season as Christmas is a good time for reflections and family gatherings.”

“I appeal to all truck and boat drivers to abstain from taking alcohol as you transport people along our roads and between our islands and villages. Think about your own safety and that of your passengers. Police in Kirakira will do its part by mounting an operation using the breathalyser on vehicle and boat drivers. Anyone caught under the influence of alcohol will be dealt with accordingly,” says Superintendent Sitai

PPC Sitai thanked all stakeholders including members of the Ward Crime Prevention Committees for their hard work in assisting the police during 2017 to maintain peace throughout communities in the Makira Ulawa Province.
