Kirakira Police investigate traffic accident

Police in Kirakira in the Makira-Ulawa Province are investigating a traffic accident at Waimapuru National Secondary School on 30 November 2017.

The vehicle was travelling easterly direction and collided with the security fence of Waimapuru National Secondary school.

Provincial Police Commander, Makira Ulawa, Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “Three people were on board the vehicle including the driver. The driver had no driver’s licence and was allegedly under of influence of alcohol. None of the people on the vehicle received any injuries.”

Superintendent Sitai adds: “The driver was issued with Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) requiring him to produce all his traffic related documents as he is likely to go before the court after police completes investigation.”

PPC Sitai said, “In the month of November 2017 alone, police have received two reports of serious vehicle accidents which resulted in both vehicle sustain major damages. The first one was the government owned vehicle by Waimapuru National Secondary school.

Mr Sitai adds: “It is challenging for the police in Kirakira as we doing a lot of traffic campaign but police will continue to appeal to the vehicle drivers to abstain from alcohol while driving during this festive celebration.

Investigation in to the traffic accident are continuing and police appeal to people in the surrounding communities to come forward should they have any information that will help the police with their investigations.
