RSIPF and CPLT conducted AI and cybersecurity awareness at Tenaru and Betikama schools.

A CPLT member talk to the student about AI

The National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) recently conducted a cybersecurity outreach programme at St Joseph’s Catholic School and Betikama College.

The team from NCPD and CPLT visited the two schools and conducted an awareness programme on cybersecurity with the theme, ‘AI and digital safety in the modern age’.

The programme focused on introducing students to the development and diverse applications of artificial intelligence (AI), explaining its role in daily life, education, and public safety.

Using practical examples, officers helped students understand both the potential and the risks of AI technology.

A key session highlighted common forms of AI-related online scams, teaching students how to recognise deceptive tactics and protect themselves from cyber threats.

Representing the RSIPF, Assistant Commissioner Mr Simpson Pogeava emphasised in his opening remarks that AI brings both great opportunities and new challenges for young people. Digital awareness and self-protection are essential life skills in today’s connected world.

At St Joseph’s Catholic Secondary School, Principal Mr Jeoffrey Poea expressed appreciation for the joint effort, noting that the session not only expanded our students’ knowledge of technology but also reminded them to be responsible and vigilant digital citizens.

Betikama College Principal Mr Bevan Tutuo thanked the visiting officers, saying that the programme successfully combined education, safety, and fun—an approach that truly engaged our students.

The CPLT team—Superintendent Zhang Yuanyuan, Zhang Peng, and Li Qingbo delivered a practical self-defence lesson tailored to students’ everyday safety needs.

Through live demonstrations, step-by-step guidance, and interactive participation, the officers encouraged students to learn by doing.

The atmosphere was energetic and full of enthusiasm as students practised simple yet effective techniques in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.

The event strengthened cooperation between the RSIPF and CPLT in community engagement and youth education, helping students build both digital literacy and self-protection awareness in the age of AI.
