Three missing fishermen found safe in CIP

Three fishermen from Lilisiana Village near Auki in the Malaita Province have been found safe after drifting at sea since Saturday 2 December when their outboard motor engine broke down while fishing at Ramos Island between Ngella and North Malaita.

“The three fishermen drifted after their engine broke down and were not found until the afternoon of Monday 4 December, when another boat from Lilisiana Village which participated in the search located them at the Anuha Island on north Big Ngella,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Central Islands Province, Hugo Maelasi.

“The three men are well together with their outboard motor engine and canoe. They have now been transported back to their village at Lilisiana by the same boat that located them at Anuha Island,” says PPC Maelasi.

Inspector Maelasi adds: “I want to take this opportunity to repeat the safety at sea messages that we have been telling people and one of them is to ensure that your engine is serviced properly and is in good working order before you go out to sea. You must be prepared to spend some money to service your engine because it might save your life.”
