Police call off search and rescue operation after a body was found at Henderson seaside

Police have called off the search and rescue operation after the body was found at Henderson seaside this evening (28 January 2026).

Police received the report of the dead body, and they went to the scene and removed the dead body to the morgue, and later family members called in and identified the body as that of the late Ishmael Fiusilia.

Police have launched a search operation following a report of a missing person believed to have been washed away while attempting to cross the Lunga River near the Crusher Area.

The incident was reported to police after information was received that a young adult male was crossing the river with others when he encountered difficulty and failed to reach the opposite bank. He is believed to have been swept away by strong river currents.

Initial attempts by family members to locate the individual were unsuccessful. As a result, police were alerted, and a coordinated response was initiated.

Police have requested assistance to conduct surveillance and search operations along the Lunga River, including the river mouth area. Relevant police units have been informed and are taking part in the ongoing search efforts.

Police extends its deepest condolences to the family and relatives for the loss of their loved one.

Members of the public are reminded to exercise extreme caution when crossing rivers, particularly during periods of heavy rain and strong currents.
