Commanders and leaders of the three Honiara City Command Zones of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force attended a three-day workshop from 5 – 7 December that will help them implement the Crime Prevention Strategy.
The theme of the workshop was, “Your command, your community, your problem – your solution together”
The workshop was designed to the best practice model of operationalizing the Crime Prevention Strategy and is the pilot model that will roll out to the provinces in 2018 and beyond.
“The three day interactive workshop taught participants how to implement the values of the Crime Prevention Strategy using a framework of collaborative Community Collective impact and a proven problem solving template, using the SARA model – In Scanning- what is the problem?, In Analysis-What is contributing to the problem?, In Response- What can we do to gather to prove the problem?, In Assessment-Did the response work?,” says Deputy Commissioner, Operations, Gabriel Manelusi
Other topics covered included Profiling and intelligence, Media, Finance, Monitoring, Evaluation and Leadership.
“More importantly, the Commanders or Supervisors used the Workshop to decide the future of their station and discussed how this model will be best enabled and work within the village/community framework,” says Deputy Commissioner Manelusi.
He adds: “During a plenary session the participants in the workshop were able to engage with other stakeholders in the implementation of the Strategy to hear their views on the RSIPF and policing.”
Attending the plenary were Honiara Community Leaders including the Lord Mayor of the Honiara City Council, Andrew Mua; representatives of the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce, Solomon Islands Women in Business, Solomon Islands Chinese Association, Solomon Islands Civil Society Organisation, traditional leaders of communities, Media Association of Solomon Islands, Solomon Islands Christian Association, Ministry of Women, Youth and Children; Honiara Youth Centre, Solomon Islands Futsal and Ministry of Health.
Mr Manelusi further adds: “The three-day workshop was an important process in the plan to progress the Crime Prevention Strategy throughout Solomon Islands. It’s important that our own officers are able to master the necessary skills and information so they are able to train members of the Ward Crime Prevention Strategies who are very important to the implementation of the Strategy.”
Deputy Commissioner Manelusi thanked the New Zealand Government-funded Solomon Islands Police Support Program for coordinating the workshop.
