Father rapes daughter; police arrest and charge

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Lata arrested a 38-year-old father on Friday, 13 February 2026, for raping his own daughter in Temotu Province.

It was alleged that the father occasionally had sexual intercourse with his 12-year-old daughter. The incident occurred on different dates in the months of April to August 2025 on Santa Cruz Island.

Following the incidents, the victim confessed to her mother, and her mother approached the police and reported the matter.

Police carried out an investigation, and the suspect was arrested and charged with seven counts of incest, contrary to Section 163 [1] [2] [a] of the Penal Code [amended] [Sexual Offences] Act 2016.

The suspect was remanded in Lata Correctional Facility, waiting for his next appearance on a later date.

Supervising Operation Manager, Temotu Province Sergeant (Sgt) Sergeant Junior Bilve, condemned the matter in the strongest terms, as it will affect the victim in many ways, which include enduring more emotional, social, physical, self-identity, familial, and interpersonal difficulties.

“As a father, it is your sole responsibility to take care of and have dignity for your daughter and not to regard her as an alternate wife for the purpose of having sexual intercourse,”

said Operation Manager Bilve.
