RSIPF Warns Public of Bomb Disposal Operation at Alligator Creek

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Department advises the public that a controlled demolition of unexploded ordnance (UXO) will be conducted at Hells Point in the Alligator Creek area on 11 March 2026.

Director of EOD, Inspector Clifford Tunuki, said the Hells Point Demolition Range in Central Guadalcanal will be active from 8:00am to 1pm on the day.

“Farmers, fishermen, hunters, and members of the general public in and around the Henderson area, Alligator Creek, and Tenaru School are kindly advised to keep away from the Hells Point demolition range while the operation is in progress,” Inspector Tunuki said.

“To ensure public safety, controlled evacuations and roadblocks will be enforced in designated areas from East Henderson to the Tenaru School bus stop during the operation.”

Inspector Tunuki explained that the activity forms part of the RSIPF EOD Department’s regular operational program aimed at safely disposing of unexploded ordnance and reducing the quantity of explosive ordnance currently stored at the site.

“The Air Traffic Control Tower at Honiara International Airport will coordinate the firing of each demolition serial.

EOD operators will also be posted at the control tower throughout the operation to ensure safe coordination of the demolition activities,” he said.

The RSIPF appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the public as EOD members continue their work to remove and safely dispose of explosive remnants of war, ensuring the safety of communities across Guadalcanal and Honiara.
