RSIPF warns communities of UXO operation in north Guadalcanal

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Department of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will conduct a Render Safe Procedure (RSP) on a live unexploded ordnance (UXO) found at the Koli Point area in north Guadalcanal tomorrow, 13 March 2026.

Director of the EOD Department, Inspector Clifford Tunuki, says, “The UXO contains highly sensitive mechanical time components, making it extremely dangerous to handle, move, or transport.

Therefore, due to the high risk involved in handling and transporting this ordnance, our hard-working EOD officers will first conduct an RSP to neutralize the sensitive elements before the item can be safely removed and transported to Hells Point demolition range for final disposal, said Director Tunuki.

Inspector Tunuki urged workers, farmers, and the residents living in and around the Koli Point area and the nearby villages to kindly keep out of the area while the operation is in progress.

Mr. Tunuki said temporary safety cordons, evacuations of people, and roadblocks will be enforced within these areas to ensure the safety of everyone is accounted for.

He said the task will be carried out between 9am and 1pm in the afternoon, and the mentioned communities are urged to cooperate with police so that we have this operation safely conducted and completed in a timely manner.

Tunuki said it is strongly advised that members of the public not touch or attempt to move UXOs, bombs, or any suspicious objects.

Instead, report any sightings of any UXOs or bombs through the RSIPF EOD mobiles 7495215/7495214 or report it to any nearest police stations.

The RSIPF EOD Department continues to work closely with communities to safely manage and dispose of bombs remaining from WWII, ensuring the safety of people across the Solomon Islands.
