Police urge the public to refrain from circulating AI-generated false images and misinformation.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) urges members of the public to immediately stop circulating artificial intelligence (AI)-generated, digitally altered, and misinformation images that falsely depict incidents involving national infrastructure.

These widely spread falsified visuals on social media and messaging platforms pose serious risks to the public safety, national confidence, and social stability.

Recent monitoring has identified numerous images portraying fabricated damage, emergencies, and security threats affecting critical facilities. While these images may appear realistic, many have been artificially generated or edited with the intent to mislead, provoke fear, or manipulate public perception.

Police are concerned that such misleading images have the potential to create unnecessary fear and panic among the public, particularly at this time when the Oceania Football Pro Tournament is currently being hosted in Honiara at the National Stadium.

The RSIPF notes that these images may alarm individuals who are planning to attend matches, as well as those who have already attended events at the venue.

The circulation of false or manipulated content disrupts the peaceful atmosphere of this important regional sporting event.

Police strongly warn that generating and sharing misleading content involving government properties is a serious matter and is an offense, especially when it is likely to cause fear or public disorder.

The RSIPF is urging everyone to act responsibly and refrain from spreading false or harmful information. Members of the public are encouraged to verify information from official sources and report any suspicious or misleading content to police.

Police will carry out investigations to identify those responsible for creating and distributing such content.

Individuals found to be involved in these activities will be held accountable in accordance with the law.

The RSIPF remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors.
