The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested a male suspect in his 40s in relation to a murder incident at Humou Village near the Makira-Ulawa Provincial Headquarter at Kirakira in May of 2016.
The body of the 25-year-old diseased male was found dead hanging at Humou Village near Kirakira in the early hours of 24 May 2016.
“Officers from the National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID)in Honiara had to make several trips to investigate the matter and this month a team of investigators travelled to Kirakira and followed up information and got the break through from potential witnesses,” says Assistant Commissioner of Police, Crime, Ian Vaevaso.
ACP Vaevaso adds: “On 9 December 2017, two investigators escorted the suspect to Honiara on a Solomon Airlines flight. The Serious Crime Squad interviewed the suspect and he was charged with one count of murder under Section 200 of the Penal Code.”
The suspect appeared in Court on 11 December and has been remanded in custody for 14 days when he is expected to return to Court.
“Police appreciates the assistance rendered by members of the public in the area where the incident happened which had led to the arrest of the suspect. I would also like to commend the NCID and Kirakira investigators for their persistence with their investigations despite facing some difficulties during the course of their work,” says ACP Vaevaso.
