Police step up security arrangement in Honiara for parliament meeting: Business as usual

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) is stepping up its security arrangement for the parliament meeting, which will happen tomorrow (7 May 2026).

During an operation brief today (6 May 2026), RSIPF Commissioner Mr. Ian Vaevaso says, “Police have stepped up their security operations and business as usual. Schools will continue on with normal classes.

Commissioner Vaevaso says, “Your police-RSIPF has been working closely with local communities in Honiara to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all citizens.”

Police are closely monitoring the current political situation and appeal to everyone to stay calm and allow our leaders to do their business.

Commissioner Mr. Ian Vaevaso reminds Honiara residents and the good people of the Solomon Islands to respect the principles of democracy.

Commissioner Vaevaso said our time was up during the voting process. Now it is their time for our leaders to make a decision on our behalf. Allow them to exercise it.

Mr. Vaevaso is appealing to members of the public not to spread false information about this motion, as it can lead to misinformation and confusion.

He said members of the public should stay calm, treat the coming day as business as usual, and allow members of parliament to do their work in accordance with the political processes.

The police chief said police will ensure public safety and fairness to this process, and the RSIPF is closely monitoring the situation leading up to the Parliament meeting.

The RSIPF is encouraging members of the public to refrain from doing anything that may disrupt this democratic process and to refrain from taking advantage of the situation.
