The Close Personal Protection (CPP) Department of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), in partnership with the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT), officially launched a three-week specialised training programme.

The three-week programme that started on 10 July 2026 focused on ground control and defensive techniques to boost the capability of the CPP Department.

The opening ceremony featured a keynote address by Florence Wasi, coordinator of the CPP, who extended sincere gratitude to the CPLT for their comprehensive coordination and meticulous planning of the curriculum.

Wasi encouraged all participating officers to fully embrace the opportunity to sharpen their practical skills and professional capabilities.

Representing the CPLT, Wang Yang highlighted that the training serves as a testament to the growing partnership, deep trust, and enduring friendship between the Chinese Police and the RSIPF.

The programme is structured with the ultimate objective of identifying top-performing officers to form a new elite tactical unit.

"We don’t just need brave hearts; we need elite, battle-tested skills," Wang Yang, the CPLT representative, noted during the opening address, emphasising that in high-pressure frontline environments, the ability to establish control or execute safe escapes is a life-saving skill.

Following the opening ceremony, CPLT instructor Wang Yang led the inaugural theoretical session, providing a detailed breakdown of the three-week training framework, ground control and defence, perimeter protection, situational awareness, etc.

Participants demonstrated a high level of professional discipline and engagement, actively contributing to classroom discussions and relating the tactical theory to their daily operational experiences.

Moving forward, the CPLT will systematically guide the practical training phases of the programme to ensure that all CPP participants achieve full proficiency in standardised, practical, and effective control and disposal techniques.

The RSIPF remains committed to enhancing the operational capacity of its specialist units through continued international cooperation, ensuring that officers are well-equipped to uphold peace and security across the Solomon Islands.
