The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has strengthened its driver training capability following the successful completion of the Driving Instructor (Training of Trainers) Program 1/2026.

Delivered over six weeks in partnership with the RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) and the Solomon Islands Professional Driver Training Services (SIPDTS), the program was designed to rebuild RSIPF’s internal capacity to deliver professional, standardised driver training across the organisation.

The initiative addresses critical operational challenges, including a backlog of unlicensed officers and a shortage of qualified driver trainers within RSIPF.

Assistant Commissioner Lionel Kapisa of the National Operations Portfolio said the program marks a significant step forward for the organisation.

“Today marks an important achievement for RSIPF. This program is about more than just driving—it is about building a foundation of safe, professional, and disciplined driving standards across our organisation,” he said.

“You are now part of a growing capability that will help restore and strengthen driver training across our commands and provinces.”

RAPPP Advisor Samantha Donaghue acknowledged the importance of long-term outcomes from the program.

“What began as a need to rebuild driver training capacity has progressed into a tangible and lasting outcome,” she said.

“The success of this program rests with the participants, who now represent the next generation of RSIPF driver training instructors.”

The program reflects strong collaboration between RSIPF, RAPPP, and SIPDTS. RAPPP provided advisory support and key resources, including dual-control vehicles, to support ongoing training delivery.

SIPDTS Managing Director Joyce Lelau said the partnership has delivered meaningful outcomes.

“This program demonstrates what can be achieved through strong partnerships and a shared commitment to improving safety and professionalism on our roads,” she said.

Chief Instructor Alvin Indu added:
“Participants have demonstrated discipline and dedication. They now have the skills not only to drive safely, but to train others to a high standard.”

Graduates of the program will return to their respective commands to deliver driver training, helping to improve safety, reduce risk, and enhance operational readiness across RSIPF.

The completion of the Driving Instructor Program marks the beginning of a strengthened, sustainable driver training capability within RSIPF.

RAPPP has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting RSIPF as it continues to build and embed this important function.
