Police arrests a 27-year-old man for raping an 8-year-old girl in Malaita
Police in Auki have arrested a 27-year-old man for the allegation of rape of an 8-year-old girl in a village in West Kwara’ae, Malaita Province, recently.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Malaita Province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, said it was alleged that the 27-year-old man lured the little girl and touched her private part.
PPC Ramosaea said the suspect did the act several times, and she reported it to her parent, whereby they formally opened a case against the suspect.
Superintendent Ramosaea said the case was formally reported to the police on 18 July 2026, and the suspect was then apprehended on the same day at his village.
The suspect was charged with the offence of rape contrary to section 136f of the Sexual Amendment Act 2016 and was remanded at the Auki Correctional Facility.
Police strongly appealed to the communities in Malaita, especially in the area from which the problem arises, to take good care of their children to avoid such wrongdoings.
Community and church leaders must play active roles in reducing such unwanted criminal behaviours.
