A 21-year-old male suspect stabs a 75-year-old man and died instantly in Malaita Province

Police in Auki have arrested and charged a 21-year-old male suspect for stabbing a 75-year-old man after an argument in Sunila village, in west Kwara’ae, Malaita Province, recently.

The deceased was at his canteen when the suspect, who was allegedly intoxicated, approached the premises using abusive words. He confronted the suspect, asked him to stop using abusive language, and told him to leave the area.

On his return a short time after, he continued arguing with the deceased. During the argument, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the 75-year-old man on his left chest before escaping the scene.

Family members rushed to assist the victim, who was taken to Fauabu Mini Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police officers from Auki responded to the incident on the same day and successfully arrested the suspect.

The suspect has been charged with murder, contrary to section 200 of the Penal Code, and has been remanded at the Auki Correctional Facility for his court appearance.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, commended the swift response and professionalism of the officers involved in the investigation and arrest.

"I commend our officers for their prompt response and dedication in ensuring the suspect was apprehended and brought before the court. We also appeal to members of the public to remain calm and allow the judicial process to take its course," Superintendent Ramosaea said.
