Commissioner Aitorea thanks Australia for gifting two NAIAD speed crafts to the RSIPF

The Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), Mr James Aitorea, thanked the Australian government for gifting two NAIAD speed crafts during a handing-over ceremony on 13 August 2026 at Aola Base in Honiara to RSIPF.

Commissioner Aitorea said having a strong maritime capability is critical to the sovereignty, safety and security of our nation. These vessels will significantly strengthen our maritime capability and support the important work undertaken by the RSIPF Maritime Division.

“The boats will assist the RSIPF to conduct near-coastal patrols, support law enforcement operations, undertake search and rescue activities, conduct medical evacuations and respond to the needs of communities across the Solomon Islands,” said the acting commissioner.

Mr Aitorea said the boats will also enhance our ability to combat transnational serious and organised crime and contribute to a safer and more secure maritime environment. The project is an excellent example of Australian government agencies working together in support of Solomon Islands policing priorities.

“We acknowledged the Australian Federal Police for delivering this capability and thanked all the Australian government partners who have contributed to ensuring these vessels were successfully transported, delivered and prepared for operation in the Solomon Islands,” the police chief said.

The handing over of the two new boats is an effort that demonstrates a shared commitment to strengthening security, stability and policing capability across the region.
