Members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Police Response Team (PRT) in Honiara have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect in relation to an alleged hit and run accident which occurred in the Town Ground area in the capital on 13 December 2017.
Supervising Director Traffic, Staff Sergeant George Mauli says, “On Wednesday 13 December 2017 around 6.15pm, the victim was allegedly crossing the road when he saw the traffic moving slowly when all of a sudden a vehicle heading in the easterly direction collided with the 10-year-old victim.”
Mr Mauli says, “As a result the victim fell onto the road and sustained injuries to the back of his head. He was then rushed to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) by another vehicle for medical attention. The 10-year-old boy is still admitted at the NRH.”
He explains: “Relatives of the suspect and the victim called in at the Kukum Traffic Centre to sort out the issue among themselves to avoid any possible retaliation.”
“It is very important that both drivers and pedestrians take extreme care while using our roads especially at this time of the year when the roads are very busy,” says Mr Mauli.
Police are continuing their investigation into the accident and are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with any information that may assist with the investigation.
