Police arrest a 30-year-old male suspect for stabbing a 45-year-old male victim with a kitchen knife

Auki police have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for stabbing a 45-year-old male victim with a kitchen knife at Lalana Island in Malaita Province.

The arrest was done on the 28th of September 2026, with the support of community leaders. The stabbing incident happened last week on 24 September 2026.

Initial reports indicate that the suspect was heavily under the influence of liquor at the time of the stabbing incident.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province Superintendent Michaeal Ramosaea says Auki police are currently investigating the alleged horrific stabbing incident.

PPC Ramosaea says the victim was playing ludo under his house when the suspect had violently attacked him with the kitchen knife.

Superintendent Ramosaea says the suspect allegedly cut the victim on his body and stabbed him on the belly, which caused severe wounds.

Mr Ramosaea says relatives assist the victim to the hospital while the suspect escapes and hides. The victim is in critical condition.

He says police officers attended to the victim at the hospital but were unable to obtain a formal statement due to the severity of his medical condition.

The Malaita Provincial Chief has strongly appealed to the relatives of the victim to remain calm and maintain the peace while police actively investigate the matter. Community members are urged not to take the law into their own hands.
