RSIPF honors officers who died in the line of duty

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), together with other police forces around the world, yesterday (29 September 2026) commemorated Police Remembrance Day, also known as Blue Ribbon Day.

Police Remembrance Day is an annual observance day to honour police officers who have died in the line of duty or because of their duties.

Acting Commissioner of the RSIPF, Mr James Aitorea, said this year’s Blue Ribbon Day was commemorated through a low-key ceremony held at the Rove Memorial Park at the Police Headquarters in Rove, Honiara.

Commissioner Aitorea said the ceremony was attended by the Acting Prime Minister Francis Sade and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Mr Trevor Unusu, along with RSIPF members and programme partners.

He said the occasion provided an opportunity to honour the dedication and commitment of police officers in Solomon Islands and across the region who serve to uphold law, justice and the safety of their communities.

“Today, we remember the sacrifices made by men and women throughout the police force. We also remember our colleagues who have died in the execution of their duties, particularly those who have passed away before their time,” Commissioner Aitorea said.

He said Police Remembrance Day was an important occasion to recognise the courage, dedication and service of police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Wreaths were laid by invited guests and members of the RSIPF in honour and remembrance of police officers who lost their lives while serving their country.
