Guadalcanal Police formally charged two male suspects for rioters codified under section 81 of penal code and common assault as an additional charge under section 58 (1) of the road and transport act.
The alleged suspects were formally arrested and charged following the incident of rock throwing at Henderson Police Station on the early hours on the 25 December 2017 during Christmas Festive Operation.
Honiara Central Magistrate Court ordered the suspects to remand in custody and expected to appear in next 14 days.
Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “No police officers injured during the rock throwing and no damage to the police station as rocks landed on the roof and the front corridor of the station.”
“I call to my good people around Henderson area to respect our Police Station. The Station cost huge amount of money donated by Australia and New Zealand Government through RAMSI,” Superintendent Manetoga said.
PPC Manetoga added: “I call on surrounding communities in and around Henderson area to respect police. Police is your friend and not your enemy.”
Mr Manetoga further stated, “Even though such incident occurred, Guadalcanal Police will continue to work together with communities for safe and peaceful society to live in.”
He further added: “I want to call upon chiefs and responsible people from Reef Islands who settle in and around Henderson to cooperate with police. Assist our youths who involved in such unacceptable behaviour to stop and involved in other activities that will help shape them for a better future.”
