Boat collision leaves 15-year-old badly injured

Police in Taro, in Choiseul Province are investigating an alleged collision between two boats at Wagina Island, in North-East Choiseul on 13 January 2018.

The incident happened at night outside Wagina Island during which a 15-year-old boy was badly injured. The boy was travelling in a fibre glass boat powered by a 15 horse engine along with four other relatives.

“The victim was lying on top of the fiberglass cabin when the boats collided and he fell into the sea. Luckily the driver quickly turned back and managed to pick him up and took him to Wagina Clinic,” says Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Cider Nevol.

“At the Clinic he was referred to Gizo Hospital for medical treatment due to multiple injuries sustained during the incident,” says PPC Nevol.

She adds, “My officers are currently investigating the incident and I appeal to the victim’s relatives not to take the law into their own hands but allow the police to investigate the matter. People with information on the incident should come forward and assist the police with their investigation.”
