Police in Munda, Western Province have arrested and charged a prominent local business man and his son for assaulting a 65-year-old man in Munda over the weekend.
The incident happened at the Munda wharf on 13 January 2018.
“It is alleged that the victim had an argument with the suspects and it was during the argument that both accused assaulted the victim leaving him with a dislocated jaw,” says Provincial Police Commander, Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu.
PPC Lenialu adds, “The victim has since been referred to the National Referral Hospital in Honiara. Both accused have been arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm.”
“I call on relatives of the victim to refrain from taking the law into their own hands but allow the police to proceed with the matter,” says PPC Lenialu
Relatives of the victim had demanded compensation from the two accused but police intervened and calmed the situation.
