Provincial police in Malaita Province have arrested a 32 year-old man on Sunday 14 January 2018 after allegedly attacking his wife at Riverside village in Small Malaita.
It was alleged the man was under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred on 10 January 2018.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Timothy Apaesi says, “The report of the alleged attack of the wife by husband is serious as the wife has been admitted at the Afio Rural Health Centre.”
“The man will be dealt with under the Family Protection Act, which provides a fine of $30,000 or imprisonment for 3 years, or both,” adds Superintendent Apaesi.
The police is expected to bring the man before the Auki Magistrate Court today (15/01/2018) for a remand application.
Police investigation into the matter continues.
