Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly injuring his wife over the weekend, 17 February 2018, at Gilbert Camp area in East Honiara.
The matter was reported to police by a community leader alleging the man injured his wife with a weapon. Police then responded, obtained evidence and then arrested the man who was allegedly involved in the incident.
It was alleged the man got angry after his wife accused him of being under the influence of alcohol which led to an argument, as a result the man attacked the wife with a weapon believed to be a plate cutter.
Honiara City Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Superintendent Alfred Uiga says, “I am grateful for the support so far provided by the community at Gilbert Camp.”
“The support provided by the community at Gilbert Camp must be appreciated as it shows the community is working together with the police to curb crime in our community. I would also like to thank my officers for the swift response to the incident which resulted in the man allegedly involved arrested and will face the law,” adds PPC Uiga.
He says, “I appeal to relatives of the man and wife not take the law into your hands, instead allow the law to take its course.”
“I would also like to appeal to other communities in Honiara to do the same, work together with the police to curb crimes in our communities, to ensure our homes are safe for our children, women and the our elderly people,” says Chief Superintendent Uiga.
The man has appeared in the Honiara Central Magistrate Court today, 20 February 2018 on a charge of Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm and is released by the court to reappear tomorrow in the same court.
