About 300 students and teachers at the McMahon Community High and Primary School in Tulagi in the Central Province have acknowledged the awareness talk conducted on the issues of kwaso and marijuana by the police in the township today.
“The awareness talk was conducted following a request from the McMahon Community High School. We were happy to respond to the request as we believe it is important that our youth are given the information about the effects of drugs such as kwaso and marijuana. Our youth are exposed to these substances so they must know the effects of these things on their mental and physical health. They must learn to say no to these substances,” says Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta.
PPC Leta adds: “Following the presentations by my officers on kwaso and marijuana students and teachers were able to raise some questions and my officers were able to respond with further clarifications on the issues.”
Senior Secondary School Teacher at the McMahon Community High School, Gordon Uupwe’e says, “I sincerely thank the PPC and her officers for taking their time to visit this School and talk about these important issues for our students. This is part of the learning process for our students here.”
PPC Leta thanked McMahon Community High School for the invitation to do the awareness talks.
“Police here in Tulagi will continue to work in partnership with communities in Central Province to ensure awareness talks are conducted for our people on these important issues. I would also like to thank my officers for their commitment to ensure the awareness talks are held in our communities,” says Superintendent Leta.
