In its preparation for major upcoming operations, officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are undergoing an Operational Safety Assessment requalifying course which started in late April 2018 and will end in June 2018 at the Rove Police Headquarter in Honiara.
The RSIPF Police Response Team Training wing is coordinating the training.
Director of the RSIPF National Response Department, Superintendent Rex Waiwori explains: “The aim of this program is to up skill all officers from Maritime, Fire & Rescue, National Emergency Management Special Event Planning and the Police Band on the legal use of force.”
He adds: “It will also enhance officers to quickly respond to any situation utilizing the use of force options that is available to them. The training will also equip the officers in preparation for upcoming major events including the National General Elections next year.”
The program has been divided into four groups:
• 1st group qualified a total of 18 officers;
• 2nd group qualified a total of 28 officers;
• 3rd group qualified a total of 15 officers; and
• 4th group currently on training.
Under this training program a total of 90 officers have been qualified on the Operational Safety Assessment (OSA) including 5 females, whilst 29 officers are yet to be qualified.
Superintendent Rex Waiwori emphasises, “The training is very important in preparations for upcoming major events including the 2019 National General Election as well as helping the officers with their day to day duties as what has been learnt will be used while they are on duty.”
