The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Fire and Rescue Service is continuing its series of intensive fire fighting and rescue training with a programme scheduled from 16 to 28 May 2018.
RSIPF Fire Co-ordinator, Inspector Fred Pelebo explains, “The training, which will be conducted in two groups, will be delivered by two Fire Trainers from Fire and Rescue New South Wales(NSW) in Australia, purposely to up skill the local fire fighters capability to respond to fire incidents.”
Inspector Pelebo adds: “There will be 21 participants, including two female officers, in the first group for the training as the number of participants in the second group is being finalised. The training will be conducted at the Central Fire Station, Rove Police Headquarter and Hells Point east of Honiara and will be conducted in dry, wet and live fires.”
“This training is part of the RSIPF Fire and Rescue Service’s preparations for major upcoming events in the later part of this year and the National General Elections next year,” says Inspector Pelebo
He also thanked the Fire and Rescue NSW Team through the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) for its continuous support in providing training for the local fire and rescue service.
One of the two female fire fighters who are attending the training Woman Police Constable, Violyn Barry Isari says, “I know I will really benefit from the training although it will be tough and challenging. I want to encourage other female officers within the RSIPF to pursue a career within the Fire and Rescue Service.”
