Four men and a child missing at sea since 30 March 2018 in Temotu Province have been found by local fishermen at an island near the Duff Islands in that Province.
The boat with four men and one child went missing when travelling from Lata to the Reef Islands. Police and relatives have been searching for them since then.
Police in Lata, Temotu Province have been informed that the missing boat and five people were located by local fishing men on 16 May 2018 and have been taken to the Duff Islands.
Supervising Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), Gabriel Manelusi says, “The five people were located by local fishermen and have been taken to Duff Islands.”
He adds: “Police Patrol Boat Auki has left Honiara last night to Temotu Province and is expected to have on-board a medical doctor from Lata and will then proceed straight to Duff Island to check the health of the four men and one child as they have been out at sea for about 43 days.”
“I would like to thank the fishermen involved in assisting the people found to reach the Duffs so that first hand medical attention is provided to them at the local medical clinic awaiting arrangements for their travel to Lata,” says Mr Manelusi.
