The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is urging its officers to set a high standard of driving on the roads as the Force continues to provide driver training for its officers.
Eighteen officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) have been undergoing vehicle driving training in Honiara since 14 May 2018.
Two groups of officers, one group being from the RSIPF Close Personal Protection (CPP) Unit, Police Respond Team (PRT), Logistics and the other group from female police officers are undergoing the Basic Driver’s Training program in Honiara.
Eight CPP officers, three PRT officers and one officer from Logistics are attending the two weeks Safety Driving program from 14 to 25 May 2018.
The Female Basic Drivers Training program started on 14 May and will end on 25 June 2018. Four female officers from the provinces and two from Honiara are attending this Training. The continuous support from the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) in funding the program makes it possible for the officers to attend. This is the 3rd SIPDP-funded program for female officers.
Director of RSIPF Academy, Superintendent Mary Bennett says, “The training is aimed at achieving the RSIPF Strategic Direction to Strengthen Public Safety. At the end of the program the officers should acquire the required driving skills, response efficiently to incidents, have the ability to operate vehicles in difficult terrain and reduce the number of RSIPF vehicles involved in accidents. Officers will also be able to set a positive example to the community through demonstration of high standard of driving.”
“I am grateful the training is being conducted with the help of my qualified vehicle driving instructors Sergeant Alvin Indu, Constable Chris Rafita and Sergeant Kabwere of CPP. I also thank qualified drivers from the SIPDP,” says Superintendent Bennett.
She adds: “I urge the officers who have and are undergoing the training to seriously utilise the driving skills they have acquired through setting a positive example to the community through the demonstration of a high standard of driving whenever driving on our roads.”
