Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Corruption Team have arrested a member of the Makira-Ulawa Provincial Government for alleged corruption offences recently.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime Ian Vaevaso says, “The member is alleged to be the Minister for Education in the Makira-Ulawa Province when he was arrested by police. He is charged with two counts of Conversion under section 278, subsection (c) and (i) of the Penal Code.”
AC Vaevaso says, “The accused is bailed to appear before the Honiara Magistrate Court on 4 June 2018.”
Mr Vaevaso adds: “The suspect was arrested for allegedly misappropriating $474,872.00 which was the Reforestation and Out Growers Subsidy funds granted to Central Makira Constituency in 2011 – 2013.”
“Police investigations into the incident are continuing,” says AC Crime Vaevaso.
The member is believed to be a former Deputy Premier for Makira-Ulawa Province.
The allegation were in relation when he was the National Member of Parliament for Central Makira when the alleged incident happened.
