The Provincial Police Headquarters at Kirakira in the Makira-Ulawa Province has been audited by a team from the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara from 22-23 May 2018.
The auditing is part of the Provincial Operational Performance Audit (POPA) of all Police assets, leadership issues and other administrative matters. The Audit are rolled out across the country to improve standards and practices. Six have been done so far this year.
An interactive leadership panel was conducted with the Commissioner of Police and the Provincial Police Commander, Makira-Ulawa Province to discuss some of the challenges the Kirakira Provincial Police faced.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) Provincial Mr Joseph Manelugu says, “The audit mainly looked at everything within police in the Makira-Ulawa Province including administration, leadership, infrastructure, issues pertaining to the performance of police officers there and how these issues were going to be addressed.”
AC Manelugu says, “A leadership meeting was conducted during the auditing with senior police officers at the Kirakira Police Station. The meeting is part of the procedures within the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) to address some of the discipline issues that officers face within the Force.”
Mr Manelugu says, “One of the challenges officers in Kirakira face is with domestic violence cases. So I will consider organising more training on the FPA for my officers in Makira-Ulawa Province.”
Similar POPA audits have already been carried out at the provincial police headquarters in the Central, Western, Choiseul, Malaita, Isabel and Rennell-Bellona Provinces.
