RSIPF and SIPDP officers benefit from Project Management training

There should be more understanding of the project management process among officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Solomon Islands Police Development Programme (SIPDP) following the completion of a Project Management Training held at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara from 15 – 18 May 2018.

Thirty two officers of the RSIPF and SIPDP completed Project Management Training. There were two training groups with each of the groups doing the training for two days.

The training was facilitated by Simon Hine, Coordinator Enterprise Portfolio Management Office of the Australian Federal Police and Julie Mitchel of SIPDP and funded by SIPDP.

The training covered topics including:

 What is a project.
 Benefits of applying a project management structure to tasks.
 Project planning, delivery, reporting, closure, post project review.
 Project resourcing and costing.
 Risk and issue management.
 Stakeholder identification and management.
 Project communication.

Director of RSIPF Academy, Superintendent Mary Bennett says, “I am pleased to offer the venue for the training at Rove Police Academy facility, as this an important training that RSIPF members will benefit from it.”

One of the facilitators, Simon Hine’s says, “I am very impressed with the level of interest and involvement in the program and the ability of the participants to grasp the new knowledge and apply it to their respective projects, roles and functions.”

One of the participants, RSIPF Inspector Fred Suhara says, “I am pleased to attend this project management workshop training as it will help me to understand the ability to organize tasks in the right order, to hit the right outcome at the right time and how to manage tasks in my current workplace as Staff Officer to Deputy Commissioner for Operation. More importantly, the monitoring progress as the project moves forward and making tweaks to ensure that everything stays on track is of paramount importance.”

He adds: “I encourage my RSIPF colleagues to take full advantage of this project management training delivered by SIPDP Advisors as it will be beneficial in the advancement of their career in the Force.”

A locally engaged staff of the SIPDP Ronald Maburu says, “I am really pleased to have attended the training as it will improve my knowledge and skills for better management of tasks.”

"I really enjoy and learn new ideas especially team work. I see it that planning is very important in any organisation or work place whenever we want to achieve our aims or goals,” says Sergeant Mary Maneforu of the RSIPF, who is also a participant at the training.
