Police in Guadalcanal Province investigate alleged attempted suicide

Officers at the Henderson Police Station in Guadalcanal Province are investigating an attempted suicide matter that occurred at Barana, North West Guadalcanal on 7 June 2018.

“It was alleged that the mother took her two daughters with her into their house and lit a fire,” says Provincial Police Commander Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixon Manetoga.

“On seeing the house on fire the neighbours quickly managed to put out the fire and rescued them out of the building. It was then that they contacted Police to assist them,” says PPC Manetoga.

He adds: “Officers arrived at the scene and took the mother to Henderson Police station where she was dealt with and organised for her to undergo counselling. Police are continuing to investigate the incident before any charges are laid against the woman.”

“I want to thank the community of Barana for the job well done in rescuing the family and taking them to safety,” says PPC Manetoga.

He adds: “At the same time, I want to encourage members of our communities to seek help from church leaders and other leaders within your communities when you experience social problems within your families. There is always someone who is willing to listen if only you ask them instead of resorting to extreme means which will not solve anything but make things worse.”
