The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Maritime Department acknowledges the professional relationship it has with local company Y Sato Marine’s especially the training in outboard motor (OBM) maintenance and repair skills to police officers.
RSIPF Maritime Director Chief Superintendent Charles Fox Sau is pleased at how the training workshop is being delivered and the knowledge being obtained by RSIPF officers.
Chief Superintendent Sau says, “This program commenced in September 2017 and so far we have had eight officers complete the month long workshop. Officers have attended from police stations all over the Solomon Islands and have then returned home to diagnose faults and repair Police OBM’s.”
“When officers can repair police OBM’s in the Provinces it means the RSIPF’s response capability can be maintained without interruption. Previously with most engine faults the OBM had to be returned to Honiara for repair. This only happens now if the OBM has sustained a major fault,” says Director Sau.
He adds: “The RSIPF would like to acknowledge the continued support from Y Sato Marine and the Solomon Island Police Development Program (SIPDP). Due to the success of the program it is expected that workshops will continue well into the future.”
General Manager of Y Sato Marine, Chris Anthony says, “It is very important for Y Sato Marine to have close links with the organisations that purchase their products and this includes helping them to learn how to maintain them. It is especially important in the geography of the Solomon Islands where access to professional workshops (like the Y Sato one in Honiara) is not always easy. Y Sato Marine is committed to providing a complete service to all customers from sales to service and repair.”
Mr Anthony says, “I have been very impressed at the positive attitudes and the high level of interest displayed by the Police officers that have attended our workshop and would like to thank RSIPF Commissioner Matthew Varley for allowing them to attend. I believe the workshop has been very beneficial for not only the RSIPF and the officers that have attended but has also been a great experience for our own mechanics.”
