Police in Honiara is investigating a fatal traffic accident at the Ranadi Roundabout in East Honiara in the evening of 27 June 2018.
“It is alleged that the driver of the vehicle was travelling with his wife and another male person in a two and a half ton truck. It is alleged they were travelling at high speed and when approaching the Roundabout at Ranadi, the vehicle veered off the road and ran into the Telekom fence,” says Director Traffic, Inspector Brian Surimalefo.
“Police attended the incident, and the victims were taken to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) and later the female passenger was pronounced death by medical authorities. The driver of the vehicle has been discharged from the hospital whilst the other male passenger is still admitted at the NRH,” says Inspector Surimalefo.
“I want to remind vehicle drivers to think safety whilst driving your vehicles. Be reminded that the lives of your passengers depend very much on you. Do not drink and drive and make sure to abide by our traffic laws. When approaching roundabouts slowdown and be mindful of your speed,” says Inspector Surimalefo.
He adds: “Our investigation into the matter is currently underway and I appeal to those with information to come forward and assist police with whatever information they may have. I appeal to both parties not to take the law into their own hands but to allow police investigations take its course."
