Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) National Traffic Department in Honiara have arrested and charged seven people for drunk driving on 29 June 2018.
This came about during a Random Breathe Test operation to stop drunk drivers from driving on the roads in the capital.
“During this operation, Traffic Officers checked 149 vehicles and the highest offence detected is the presence of alcohol in a person’s blood,” says Director National Traffic Department, Inspector Brian Surimalefo.
“Apart from that other offences detected includes using unlicensed motor vehicle and unlicensed driver,” says Inspector Surimalefo.
He adds: “Arrests have been made and those arrested are being charged to appear in the Honiara Central Magistrate Court.”
“I want to strongly remind the general public that driving under the influence of alcohol is a crime. You are risking your own life and those around you. If you are going to drink, don’t drive. Get someone else to drive or take public transport,” says Inspector Surimalefo.
