RSIPF safely remove chemicals from Tuvaruhu

The Fire and Rescue Service of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) with the assistance of Stakeholders has safely removed all the chemicals illegally dumped near the Tuvaruhu Community High School in Central Honiara to a safe location on 7 July 2018.

The stake holders include Ministry Of Environment, Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Honiara City Council.

“All the chemicals have been stored in sealed containers and were transported to a safe location, awaiting a decision on what to do with all the chemicals,” says Director RSIPF Fire and Rescue Services, Inspector Rodney Kuma.

He adds, “During the process of recovery no chemical leaks were found at the site especially at the four locations that were used to bury the items. All the chemicals at the sites have now been removed.”

“The place is now safe and secure, and the people of Tuvaruhu can now move around freely without fear of the chemicals,” says Inspector Kuma.

“I would like to thank the community of Tuvaruhu for their understanding and patience during the task securing the chemicals from the various sites and until we removed all the items to the safe location,” says Director Kuma.

Police is continuing its investigation into the matter and would urge anyone with information to call the RSIPF National Communication Centre on 23666 or the Police Toll Free line 999.
